Early May Bank Holiday

Today is a holiday here in the UK. Technically it is the May Day holiday in England, but most people seem to just refer to it as the Early May Bank Holiday (as opposed to the Spring Bank Holiday which comes at the end of the month). Although the internet insists that we are busy with Maypole dances and May Queen coronations, in all actuality most people seem to simply enjoy having an extra day off, and celebrate their free day with a bit of gardening or shopping.

We had planned to go walking in the woods this afternoon, but puttering here at home won out. We are still having some frosty nights, so we haven’t really started our little patio garden, but these herbs are getting a jump on the season. As a cook, I love having these little potted beauties available for sniffing and snipping.
